Discovering Utopia of the Seas: First Impressions & Highlights

Intro

The winter of 2025-2026 had been one of the roughest I had ever experienced ever since I moved to New York City. And even when I tried to escape from it, it followed me to Florida with freezing temperatures. But it was already March, and I was ready to have a proper escapade from this cold weather, on an impromptu cruise trip to the Bahamas, and then a quick getaway to Colombia.

I really needed to decompress after a few hard weeks at work, and get some warmth, but at the same time, get to know one of the newest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet: Utopia of the Seas. I was so excited because this was a first for me. So far, the biggest cruise I had been in was the Allure of the Seas, as part of a charter cruise for Atlantis Events. I was also going to be one of the first guests to get to the new Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas. All in all, let’s get to start this new adventure!

From New York to Orlando

For the first time ever, I was going to travel on the Embarkation day to the port. I know, I know. I should know better, and I do not recommend this to anyone, as you should get to the port city at least the day before, just in case any of the flights get delayed or cancelled. But I was risking it, flying from JFK International Airport in New York City on the first Jetblue flight into Orlando, close to Port Canaveral, home of the Utopia of the Seas. You could still see the snow on the ground from this rough winter, and of course the beautiful sunrise in the horizon.

The city that never sleeps was waking up on this Monday and the skyline looked better than ever.

Once in Orlando, the stores in the new Terminal C of the MCO International Airport, always catch my attention.

Go Port Shuttle

Now the problem was to get from MCO Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral. Since I do not drive, I checked for shuttles and found this one: Go Port Shuttle. The check in for this service was in the Terminals A/B, by the area where you rent cars. They said the first shuttles depart from 10 AM, but the first actual one was at 11 AM, so we had to wait for one hour in MCO until the shuttle arrived. It seemed to be a very popular service, and a lot of people were using it, but it was a little bit disorganized.

Once in the shuttle, it did not take too long to get to Port Canaveral. Back in 2024 I had been here for a Disney Wish cruise, and now I was seeing it again, next to Carnival Glory, Sky Princess, Explorer of the Seas, and Utopia of the Seas, my home for the next 4 days.

And yes, I was doing a 4 Night Bahamas & Perfect Day Cruise. The alternative was doing a 3-night cruise which I had promised myself I was never doing (too short!).

I only had a carry on so I went inside the Cruise Terminal in time for the check in time I had picked in the Royal Caribbean app in the previous days.

Boarding Utopia of the Seas

Launched in July 2024, Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas is a game-changer for short-duration travel. As the final Oasis-class vessel, this massive 236,860-gross-ton ship purposefully reimagines the traditional weekend getaway, offering massive energy in a compact 3- to 4-night itinerary framework from Port Canaveral.

Rather than spreading standard amenities across a week-long cruise, Utopia functions as a concentrated “World’s Biggest Weekend.” It features over 40 distinct dining options, bars, and lounges, making it an absolute playground for foodies and nightlife lovers. Unique highlights include Royal Railway – Utopia Station, an immersive virtual dining car experience that simulates historical train journeys using digital window screens.

The ship caters extensively to thrill-seekers and pool loungers alike. It packs five pools, the jaw-dropping 259-foot Ultimate Abyss dry slide (the longest at sea), and signature neighborhoods like Central Park and the Boardwalk. Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), Utopia pairs cutting-edge environmental tech with non-stop entertainment, offering a high-octane alternative to the typical beach weekend.

The boarding process was quick! I was surprised how fast I went inside of this huge ship, compared to even other smaller ones I have been to. My first impressions were of aw and felt like I was in a Las Vegas hotel. But everything looked amazing. Since this is a Oasis type of ship, I found it very similar to the previously mentioned Allure of the Seas, but 10 times better.

Getting to my stateroom

It was past 1:00 PM, so I was able to check my stateroom, 9239. It was the cheapest option by the time I got it, which was only a few days before embarkation day.

Central Park View Interior Stateroom (Category 2S): It offers a clever hybrid experience: you get the price point of an interior cabin, but with a real window that looks right out into the ship’s lush, open-air Central Park neighborhood. With 192 SF this is probably one of the biggest rooms I have ever stayed in a cruise.

I really loved being in a new cruise, everything looked so fresh.

And of course all the water bottles I got for a 4-day cruise were waiting for me. Will I finish all of them? lol.

One of the best parts was the partial view to Central Park, and the Rising Tide Bar.

Departure

For the next couple of hours I would just explore the ship, with its vibrant colors and wonderful music, until it was time for the departure.

The layout brought me so many memories from the Atlantis cruise, but it looked so different at the same time.

There were so many cruises this Monday in Port Canaveral, but I believe Utopia of the Seas was the biggest of them.

After getting some food earlier in Windjammer Marketplace, I was already hungry, so I grabbed something quick from The Spare Tire.

Finally around 4 PM, we departed, and the cruise ship started moving, with Nassau, Bahamas being the first port the next day. I could not believe my eyes seeing so many people at the beach, and just a few days earlier I was in Florida with freezing temperatures. This is how crazy the weather has gotten.

Exploring the ship

Being in Utopia of the Seas was definitely something I was not expecting to do this year. My next Royal Caribbean cruise was going to be a West Caribbean one in a few weeks, but I was craving a cruise so bad, that I just got a plane ticket and got myself in this cruise. Also, Utopia seemed like the perfect cruise to do right now. Not super big and expensive like Icon or Star of the Seas (I am actually going in this last one next year, wish me luck). For now, I would just explore the ship, since I had a very busy evening.

The Royal Promenade seemed very open, and the standalone Starbucks seemed like my favorite addition compared to the Allure of the Seas lol.

And yes, I was able to make a last minute reservation, for another day, in the immersive Utopia Railway restaurant. You will see my full review in the upcoming blogs.

Dinner at the Main Dining Room

My Time Dining is the way to go in Royal Caribbean, and I reserved 6:30 PM slot. I started my dinner with some chilled shrimp, because of course I am going to have a seafood feast in every cruise I get on.

Not without having yet another starter, like the Escargots à la bourguignonne, one of my favorite dishes across RCL and Disney Cruise Line. I order it whenever I can.

For the main course, I got the Pan-roasted fillet. The flavors were just amazing. I was craving lots of seafood and I was getting exactly that.

For dessert, nothing convinced me from the menu, so I just got chocolate ice cream, and it was pretty good.

YOUTOPIA Ice Spectacular

When I said I had a busy evening I was not joking, after dinner I rushed to Studio B on Deck 4 to go see YOUTOPIA Ice Spectacular.

The show is structured as a vibrant, colorful odyssey exploring different “ideal worlds,” transitioning through fantastical eras, time periods, and stylistic aesthetics. Rather than following a rigid narrative, it relies on a high-tempo, modern soundtrack and a succession of visually stunning set pieces. The show is skippable in my opinion, but see it if you are into this kind of shows.

The next thing in my calendar was at 10 PM, so for now I continued exploring the ship in this Day 01. For example I was in awe with the Solarium, which is the adults only area.

And Central Park was looking amazing from up here.

Quick return to my stateroom before the next show of the night. Tomorrow was going to be a long day as well, so I had to figure out how many hours I was going to sleep.

ALL IN! Signature Production Show

At 10 PM, I went to the Royal Theater in Deck 4, to see ALL IN!

ALL IN! Signature Production Show at Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas

True to the ship’s high-energy “weekend party” theme, the show is framed as a celebratory musical odyssey through history’s greatest parties. It transports the audience across incredibly distinct eras and cultural milestones, ranging from the legendary disco days of Studio 54 to the desert electro-vibes of Burning Man.

The production is a major showcase of Royal Caribbean’s technical capabilities, combining raw talent with massive special effects:

  • The Cast: The show relies on a massive, powerhouse ensemble of 20 elite dancers and 6 featured vocalists performing highly athletic choreography and intricate musical medleys.
  • The Tech: Rather than relying just on physical backdrops, ALL IN! features massive LED stage design, heavy laser setups, aerial stunt rigging, and a synchronized fleet of live drones that fly directly over the stage and audience.

Like Youtopia, this main-theater production is free but runs on tight schedules due to the ship’s short 3- and 4-night itinerary loops. Securing reservations on the Royal Caribbean app weeks before your cruise is highly recommended to guarantee a seat.
