Why to visit Los Cabos?
One of the main goals of the philosophy of Jump Traveling, is to take advantage of proximity. In my case, I had a 4 day weekend and roundtrip tickets to Monterrey. I was wondering what I could squeezed in between, and then I remembered I always wanted to come to Los Cabos.
This area located in Baja California Sur, is famous for the multiple things to do, including:
- Stunning Landscapes: Los Cabos is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, featuring a unique blend of desert, mountains, and the meeting point of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez.
- The Arch of Cabo San Lucas: One of the most iconic natural landmarks, “El Arco” or The Arch, is a distinctive rock formation at the southern tip of the peninsula, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez.
- Luxurious Resorts: The area is home to world-class resorts and hotels, attracting visitors seeking high-end accommodations and amenities.
- Thriving Marine Life: The Sea of Cortez is rich in marine biodiversity, making Los Cabos a popular destination for whale watching, snorkeling, and sport fishing.
- Vibrant Nightlife: Cabo San Lucas, in particular, is known for its lively nightlife with numerous bars, clubs, and entertainment options.
Overall, Los Cabos is a multifaceted destination that appeals to travelers seeking natural beauty, adventure, luxury, and cultural experiences.
Now, Los Cabos have 2 different towns, and both of them are different: San Jose del Cabo (where the airport is located), and Cabo San Lucas (the most famous, smaller town with the arch).
Jump Traveling from Monterrey
I got on a plane, after a day in Monterrey, and it was so early when I arrive the sunrise happened when I was waiting for the plane.

I took the cheapest, most convenient flights in terms of times, and got a hold of this Viva Aerobus roundtrip ticket. I scheduled a tour and was on my way to Los Cabos.

After not a long flight, I was there, arriving to San Jose del Cabo, and the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.

Exploring Cabo San Lucas
To go from the San Jose del Cabo airport to Cabo San Lucas, you could Uber or take the local bus, which I decided to take, right in front of the airport.
The bus dropped me off very close to the marina, and around there was this cute very local restaurant. One of the motivators to always go to Mexico, is the food of course. And while at the beach, I gotta try the the seafood every time I can.

To burn these calories, I took another walk around, exploring the town of Cabo San Lucas before checking in the hotel.

The journey to Casa Bella Hotel Boutique was very weird and disappointing. I took an Uber to the spot marked in both Booking.com and Google Maps, in which is still in the wrong spot, an off the path gated community far from its real location. The Uber dropped me off, and after some investigation, decided to take another Uber to its real location.

The hotel itself was great, I liked it a lot. I never used the pool but was really into the whole concept, very Colonial vibes.

Cabo San Lucas Marina
After taking a quick break and shower, I got back outside and explored the town a bit more. I walked towards the Marina, where I got a tour coming up. Had a snack and a coffee while I waited for the sunset boat tour to the famous Arch.

The Marina was very cute, and definitely the area where you want to be if you want to see people, especially tourists. A lot of bars, restaurants and cafes are located in this spot.

Tours were coming back into the Marina, and a lot of boats offered a glass bottom, which reminded me of this episode of The Simpsons. Even a sea lion came to say hi. The whole area was just radiant and gorgeous.

The Arch Tour with Amazing Captain in Cabo San Lucas
I got this tour from Viator called The Arch Tour with Amazing Captain in Cabo San Lucas, a 45 minute ride almost at sunset, that would show us the famous Arch just south of the Marina.

What I was not expecting was the boat to be this small. The ride was slow, since the sea was very rough today, so we were able to see the Marina from afar, and all the little beaches in the rocky coast of Cabo San Lucas.

We were only 2 in the boat at the beginning, and with the sea this rough I was surprised the embarkation was even allowed to go on this tour.

But after not a long time, there it was, the whole reason I came all the way here. The famous Arch of Cabo San Lucas.

The sea was even rougher and the waves were pretty high. It was only 2 of us plus the captain and a helper. I of course was wearing my life jacket, but the captain did a good job in keeping everyone calm with his interesting stories, and narrating what was going on and telling legends of this area.

Back to the Marina
We were finally going on the way back to the Marina, and was so happy for this. Got to see the Arch, and we picked up a lot of tourists that were “almost” trapped in the hidden beaches along the rocky coast.

And evening to chill
Walked back to the hotel from the Marina, and it just hit me how many drug stores are located in this town. Since these medications are expensive, and many require prescription in the US and other countries, tourists just get them here. It’s crazy how this moves the economy down here.

After a quick break in the hotel, I went to Mariscos El Toro Guero for dinner, trying to get more seafood.

And that I did. I ordered the fried fish, just very similar to the ones I used to eat in my hometown of Cartagena, Colombia.

The Return
I enjoyed Cabo San Lucas, even though it was a very short stay. I got to walk it a lot, and would definitely be back. Now, after check out I took an Uber to San Jose del Cabo to explore that town a bit more.

On the way there, I added some stops along the coast. And the Uber driver was kind enough to wait for me while I took pictures of the beaches.

San Jose del Cabo
The main city is San Jose del Cabo, and even though is not the most famous, it still has some cute places to visit. In the same Uber, I went to the Plaza Mijares, and other spots that were recommended by Google Maps.

I of course had to take a picture with the City Letters lol.

And something very valuable in many cities of Mexico is the open support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Leaving Los Cabos
It was time to go back to Monterrey. After a quick lunch at the airport, I waited for my flight, and got into the Viva Aerobus plane.

I know I have to come back…

But at least I know that I was able to check for myself, and yes, definitely loved Los Cabos. In Mexico is still right below Mexico City and Playa del Carmen, but for sure is better than many other cities I have been to, including Monterrey,
