Day 2: I Spent A Great Day At Sea During My Alaska Cruise

Day 2 was a Day at Sea. And after a busy couple of days of flying in Seattle and boarding the cruise, we were finally free of doing what the ship had to offer (or do anything at all). Sleeping in with no alarm is always welcomed, especially when the boat is going north on full speed pass Canadian waters towards Alaska. Tomorrow was our first stop in Juneau, so today we were just going to eat and relax.

But first, I needed to get coffee in La Pattiserie, included in the non-alcoholic beverage package that I got. And then, I went for a Cycling class in the Vitality at Sea Fitness Center. TIP: Make sure to ask if any of the classes are included in the price of the cruise, or are priced separately. In this case, the class cost some money. I had been going to the gym and doing Breakaway Indoor Classes for the last couple of months, to physically prepare for this trip, but the class itself was very intense. I would not recommend it to someone who thinks is in bad shape. Because of the price and the intensity of the class I did not come back the next days, instead, I decided to just use the rest of the gym, which is all included in the price of the cruise.

After getting all sweaty and almost pass out (lol), we went to get breakfast in The Windjammer Marketplace, and after taking a required shower and nap, we got up again for the solarium bar to get some mocktail drinks, also included in the Beverage Package.

We really liked the fruit based daiquiris, although they are very filling.

Next, we went back to the Windjammer Marketplace, and after doing the not-so-anymore-mandatory washy washy (hand washing at the entrance), we had some lunch.

The food in the Winjammer Marketplace is just that, food that you would find in any buffet. It is edible and some dishes can surprise you with presentation or taste, but the menu is created to cater the most people. You will not find anything crazy. The food in the Main Dining Room is better of course, but the food in the Specialty Restaurants like Chops Grille (in which we had a reservation) is way way better.

The afternoon was going fast, and we decided to explore the ship a bit more. We went to the casino, which was open due to being in international waters, and explored a bit more of the Solarium, the area that was only for adults. We did not go into the hot tubs or pools, but we would do it in a few days.

After a long walk around the ship, trying to burn those calories, we went back to our stateroom to find an animal towel. The stateroom host assigned was THE BEST. She had the best tips for each day, and was very polite and communicative. We were so happy with her. Like I mentioned in the debarkation blog, I tipped her well just because of all of this.

And it was formal night tonight. As a matter of fact, there were 2 formal nights on this 7 day cruise. The other one was Day 6, also famous becaue it was the free lobster day. We had My Time Reservations, meaning I booked this times on the app, but we still arrived at whatever time every night and they would still sit us right away. We never had a problem with My Time Dining, although, I noticed that people that did not make any type of reservations had to wait in line for a long time.

Day 2 was themed “A Taste of France” which of course had me excited, loving la Cuisine française.

The good thing about the Main Dining Room is you can order as many things as you want from the menu, as long as you can eat them (like don’t order something just to try it out, but I guess you could).

At 8:00 we went to the Royal Theatre for the Headliner Showtime: Starring Michael Holly. To be honest, it was underwhelming. For the Day At Sea show this is what they decided to go with? I mean, is it entertaining? Yes. But it is also too little in scope (and budget) for a Royal Theatre show.

After this we went around the ship to find somewhere just to hang for the rest of the evening. We passed by the Music Hall.

But decided to stay in Boleros, where they were having some Latin music.

And just like that, the Day 2 was over, and now we had to go back to bed for an exciting day 3 finally in Alaska, in the capital: Juneau.
